Multimedia Essentials

1.1.1  What is multimedia?
-Multimedia  includes a combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video and interactivity content forms.

Text
-Text allows the users to read and review the information at their own speed.


Images
-graphical information like graphics, photographs, drawing


Animation
-Rapid display of a sequence of images of 2-D or 3-D artwork or model positions in order to create an illusion of movement.

Video
-Video is electronically capturing, recording, processing, strong, transmitting, and reconstructing a sequence of still images.

Audio
-Digital version of sounds to create music.

-Stock photography is the supply of photographs licensed for specific uses.

Slide Show
- A slide is a display of a series of chosen pictures,which is done for artistic or instructional purposes.

Website
-A website is a collection of related wed pages, image , videos or other digital assets that are addressed relative to a common Uniform Resource Locator (URL)

Digital Signage
-Digital signage is a form of electronics display that shows information , advertising and other messages.

1.1.5  Multimedia and Hypermedia 


Multimedia is woven combinations of text, graphic art ,sound ,animation , and video elements.

Hypermedia is used as a logical extension of the term hypertext in which graphics, audio , video , plain text ad hyperlinks intertwine to create a generally non-linear medium .

Dynamic content changes can be immediately updated and put on website , allows multiple views at same time.

Interactive content accepts input from the involved user and makes an immediate response to what is happening and modify the process.

Raster Images
- use a rectangle grid of picture elements to represent images . each pixel is assigned a specific location and color value

Document Type


BMP format
-BMP File Format is a raster graphics image file format used to store bitmap digital images.

GIF format
- Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) used to display indexed-color graphics.

JPEG format
-Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) used to display indexed-color graphics. It does not support transparency .

PSD
-Photoshop Format (PSD) file format that supports all Photoshop

Tiff format
-Tagged image File format is a file format for printing
-High in resolution
-Too big in file size for web use.

Bit Depth
-Bit Depth specifies how much color information is avaliable for each pixel in an image.
-Bit Depth of 1 has pixels with two possible values: black and white

Color Mode
- Number of color channels

1) RGB mode (millions of colors)
2)Index color mode (256colors)
3)Grayscale mode (Icludes black, white, and shades of gray.)
4)Bitmap mode (2 colors)

RGB Color Profile
-sRGB is recommended when you prepare images for the web.
-Adobe RGB is recommended when you prepare documments for print.

Selection Tools
-The marquee tools make rectangle, elliptical, single row, and single column selections.
-The Move tool moves selections, layers, and guides.
-The lasso tools make free hand, polygonal, and magnetic selections.
-The Quick Selection tool lets you quickly "paint" a selection using an adjustable round brush tip.
-The magic wand tool selects similarly colored areas.

Crop and slice tools
-The crop tool trims images.
-The slice tool creates slices.
-The slice select tool select slices.

Measuring Tools
-The eyedropper tool samples colors in an image
-The color sampler tool displays color values for up to four areas.
-The ruler tool measures distance, locations, and  angles.
-The count tool counts objects in an image.
-The note tool makes notes that can be attached to an image .

Retouching Tools
-The spot healing brush tool removes blemishes and objects.
-The healing brush tool paints with a sample or pattern to repair imperfections in a image.
-The patch tool repairs imperfections in a selected area of an image using a sample or pattern.
-The red eye tool removes the red reflection caused by a flash.
-The clone stamp tool paints with a sample of an image.
-The pattern stamp tool paints with part of an image as a pattern.
-The eraser tool erases pixels and restores parts of an image to a previously saved state.
-The background eraser tool erases areas to transparency by dragging.
-The magic eraser tool erases solid- colored areas to transparency with a single click.
-The blur tool blurs hard edges in an image.
-The sharpen tool sharpens soft edges in an image.
-The smudge tool smudges data in an image.
-The Dodge tool lightens areas in an image.
-The burn tool darkens areas in an image.
-The sponge tool changes the color saturation of an area.

Painting tools
-The brush tool paints brush strokes.
-The pencil tools paints hard-edged strokes.
-The color replacement tool replaces a selected color with a new color.
-The mixer brush tool simulates realistic painting rechniques such as blending canvas colors and varying paint wetness.
-The history brush tool paints a copy of the selected state or snapshot into the current image window.
-Th art history brush tool paints with stylized strokes that simulate the look of different paint styles, using a selected state or snapshot
